This painting by William Bouguereau is one of many of his
nude works. Titled Apres
le bain. After the bath, features a young woman standing on the shore after
taking a bath in the sea. Her facial expression and body language suggest a scene of calm and
serenity as although she is nude she is clearly relaxed. She is leaning on a rock to steady herself
as she has stood on a shell and is reaching down to
remove a piece of it from her foot. She has long hair parted in the middle and held up with a band which can be seen
to the back of her head. Her towel hangs loosely over her knee and drapes to the
ground.
The above account is my interpretation of the work and should in
no way be taken as fact.
