How to Draw for absolute beginners.

How to draw the female Body   beginners guide to drawing the female body part 1.

The female body. A beginners guide to drawing the female body part 2.

The Hourglass figure. The first body shape is the hour glass. The hour glass figure was derived from of course the hour glass which was an instrument used for measuring time.

The Pear shaped figure. The pear shaped figure is usually defined by having a narrower upper body, smaller bust and narrower waist, with broader hips, a rounder bum and wider thighs.

The Banana-Rectangle shaped figure. The Banana or rectangle body shape is always associated with a sporty or boyish/masculine appearance with almost no distinct proportions.

How to a female face.  This is a beginners guide to drawing the female face.

Drawing the female face. How to practice drawing the female face from a photo image.

Facial features. Below are a few of the many attempts at various parts of this tutorial, with experiments with lines that I tried to get my drawing right. They are not brilliant but I hope they are an example and help to spur you onto success.

How to draw breasts. The female breasts vary so much in shape and size that I believe that there is no hard and fast rule on how they should look in your picture. I'm sure when we all first started attempting to draw our first nude we stuck two circles at the top of our females chest, stuck a small circle in the middle for the nipple area and said, right that's the breasts.

Breast size. The female breasts vary so much in shape and size that I believe that there is no hard and fast rule on how they should look.

Natural breasts. When drawing natural breasts the important thing is to sketch what you see no matter how it looks in the finished work. Every woman has her own beauty and uniqueness no matter the size or shape of her breasts.

Natural breasts continued. The female form is a beautiful and varied thing as all females have their own beauty and uniqueness.

Big breasts. How to draw big breasts

Breast position. As the body changes position then so does the breast. It is positioned over the pectoral muscle and so with every movement of the arms and upper body the breast position slightly changes on the body.

Breasts and nipples. The breasts hang naturally from the body

How to draw hands. A beginners guide to drawing hands.

How to draw feet. A beginners guide to drawing feet.

How to draw toes. Like the female breasts the toes come in many shapes and sizes and like the breasts the toes are also considered by some to be a highly erotic and sensual part of the female foot. The difference between plain and beautiful.

How to draw lips and mouths. A beginners guide to drawing lips and mouths.

Arms. How to draw arms.

Arms. Frontal poses. In this first example the subject is seated. She is leaning slightly to her right and is of a slim build.

Arms raised above the head. In my first sketch you can see the back of the upper arm. The forearm is turned outward slightly as the subject is clasping her hands above her head.

Arms raised and extended. In this first example the subject has both her arms raised and out stretched to her sides. She is twisting slightly to her left and is of an athletic muscular build.

Legs. The leg is made up of two basic parts. The upper leg which consists of the quadriceps which as the name suggests are made up of four separate muscles called the Rectus femoris, the Vastus intermedium, these two muscles form the V shape that can be seen at the middle of the front thigh.

Leg positions. Depending on the position of your subject and the angle from which you are viewing her you will find that the shape and overall perspective of the leg will change.

Leg poses. Notice the proportion of the legs when they are extended as in the standing pose and the nude lying with her leg outstretched. Also notice the apparent shortness of the lower leg on the kneeling nude.

Accidental Art Critic. The accidental art critic has been created as a means for all of us to express our opinions on works of art. We can all visit sites and read professional opinions about art but some of us see art in a different form. Paintings portray different meanings, to some a painting can portray passion or calm while to others it can seem crude, macabre or just plain boring. You don’t have to be a student of art nor do you need to be an artist. Now is your chance to say it how you see it.

What is art?  Some definitions that I have sourced as means of reference for your use.

Art on Emotion. A work of art can depict many things, document many historical events, tell many stories and in a lot of cases shed light or provide us with a fleeting glimpse into the lives of the artists themselves.

Art emotion. Is art really about the moment, an impulse, a sudden flash of inspiration, a eureka moment if you like.

Art-Self Observation. We are all in some way conscious of how we look, but have you ever stood in front of the mirror and really taken notice of yourself. I’m not talking about your everyday routine beauty check before you leave the house.

The genuine masterpiece. Our uniqueness comes from the fact that we could never be exactly reproduced, in the same way that with a work of art there can only be one original piece and any reproduction will never capture nor match its unique original quality.

Art & Artists.

Dante and Virgil in hell. Set on the banks of the river Styx which formed the boundary between earth and the under world. Dante is Virgil who is his guide through the nine circles of Hell.

Idylle. The young woman is looking lovingly at her partner who is naked at her feet embracing her legs. The blanket that the male is sitting on along with the expression on the young woman's face suggests that they have, or are about to share an intimate moment.

Wounded Eros. One shouldn't believe in all those so-called innovations.

Faune et Bacchante.  This painting by Bouguereau depicts a faune, who were said to be mythalogical spirits of the untamed woodland. Not to be mistaken for a Satyr who are totally different creatures, as although they both pose goat like features below the waist and human features above the waist, Satyrs were said to have human feet were as fauns had goat like hooves.

Orestes pursued by the furies. There are five figures clustered in the centre, leaving the dark landscape background largely unnoticed. A thorny vine creeps across their path in the right foreground

Bather. Baigneuse(1870) This painting of a nude by William Bouguereau features a beautiful young woman preparing to bathe in the water at her feet. Her slender figure, skin tone and facial expression are captured with a photo like quality that only Bouguereau seemed to be able to achieve.

Nymphs et Satyrs. Bouguereau portrays a Satyr with four nymphs playfully dancing around him and seemingly trying to coax him into the water to bathe.

Flore et z'ephyre. This painting by William Bouguereau is of a  young couple. It depicts the Greek god Zephyrus the god of the west wind and Flora the roman goddess of flowering plants, spring and to a lesser degree fertility

After the bath. After the bath, features a young woman standing on the shore after taking a bath in the sea.

Youthfulness of Love. La jeunesse et l'Amour. A young woman is crossing a stream using the rocks beneath her feet in what appears to be a woodland.

A soul in heaven.  Une âme au ciel. A soul in heaven the body of a young woman is being carefully carried by angels to the gates of  heaven.

The bather. The Bather is of a young woman who is sitting peacefully on her tunic which is placed over some rocks by the shore.

The birth of Venus. La naissance de venus.Venus the goddess of love can be seen standing in an oyster shell having emerged from the sea as a full grown woman.

The youth of Bacchus. Within the picture there a many characters some of which appear familiar in other works. The centre of the work shows a group of characters dancing, one of which by the way she is dressed appears to be Psyché who is dancing with her arms aloft while holding the hands of the male behind.

Biblis. A young woman is portrayed in a wood by the side of a pool. She is laying with her head on her arms and her body posture and facial expression depicts sadness or remorse.

Douleur d'amour. Pain of love. In this painting by William Bouguereau a young woman is portrayed in a wood  She is leaning on a bunch of roses which are laying on top of an ornately carved pillar. Her head is resting on her right arm while her left arm is resting on the roses.
