Making money online: A quick heads up.

Before I go any further I would like to give you a quick heads up and point out that if you are reading this thinking that I am about to reveal the ultimate get rich quick money making scheme that will make you wealthy beyond your wildest dreams I hate to inform you that I'm not, so you may as well stop reading this article and move on.

Making money online: A cautionary tale.

Avoid anything that seems to good to be true.

Now, during your initial research into embarking on your own online adventure you have probably come across many a site that claims to be able to help you set up your website and get it ranked in search almost immediately.
Getting your site submitted to the search engines is very important. Equally important is correctly setting it up and optimising it. Which lets face it, optomisation is something that hadn't even crossed our minds at this early stage. However, its vital that for any website to stand a chance of getting noticed or taken seriously it must be correctly set up and optimised. Something that you can do yourself, if you do the correct research. There plenty of books and other resources on SEO and website building available like the ones shown.

Do the research.

Also there are plenty of attractive professional looking websites that offer these services but I advise that you proceed with caution. Not all are what they seem or deliver the services and results they promise. Please be aware that if you do choose this route you will need to have a small amount of capital upfront and do the research first.

I don't know about you, but early on my desire to succeed caused me to lose money. Usually through invisible people with designer websites. The type that make false promises and claims that they have no intention of, or cannot deliver on.

There are also many other ways people can take your money. Some that seem so legitimate that you wouldn't suspect a thing. Some that would even send you detailed monthly reports with the reassurance that your money's providing you with the service you have requested. Frankly, they're not worth the cyberspace they're written on, as they're just pre-written algorithm's. Still at least you would feel assured and would continue to pay for a service that, well, your not actually getting. Of course, when you finally do realize its all a scam they no longer exist.
I cannot emphasise enough how important it is to do the research first.

Are you looking to build a website to monetise?

Once you eventually decide the path you're going to take, have built and set up your website, added a little unique content. I say unique content as the more unique the content, the greater the chance you have of getting it noticed. Both in search and by the public. Writing unique and original content is vital to your success as there are millions of sites on the web. So unless you have a niche market and your content can offer an exceptional customer experience you will be competing with all of them. It's a cut-throat world out there.

Other things to consider when trying to make money online.

The other thing to consider is that you will be up against big names and well-established companies. A large majority of them will have higher budgets, better-optimized sites and will employ professional SEO companies to ensure that they rank higher than you in the searches. They will also be promoting the same Affiliate links and products as you. However, you may be happy to just leave it as it is and either rely on sales or subscriptions to your content to provide your income.

With that said, if on the other hand, you are looking to build a website that you can monetize and have pay for itself while you learn and earn a modest income, then please do read on.
